Coming Up: ATFP Ep. 8

5 years in the making. Everything – from sprites to story to music – created by one man. And after all of that work, released for free. Cave Story is a revolution in independent game creation, and is one of the best and most loved retro games in recent memory. And it has finally come to a console in the form of a WiiWare release. Does it hold up?

This weekend, the ATFP crew takes on their first new game on the show, all because of it’s deep classic gaming roots. Got questions for the hosts? Post them to the Ask The Hosts forum, or e-mail the hosts at afterthefact@geekerific.com!

ATFP Ep. 7: U.N. Sqadron

Coming Up: ATFP Ep. 7

Near the launch of the SNES, Capcom ported an almost unknown arcade shooter into an almost unknown console shooter. In the land of Gradius and R-Type, U.N. Squadron passed quietly into the night – except in the eyes of true shooter fans. Although critically acclaimed, a true emulation-port of the arcade version was never made, and neither version has ever been re-released.

This weekend, the ATFP crew takes on U.N. Squadron to try and figure out why. Got questions for the hosts? Post them to the Ask The Hosts forum, or e-mail the hosts at afterthefact@geekerific.com!

Technical Issues Resolved (Hopefully)

After last night’s upload of episode 6, a string of technical difficulties occurred both server-side and of the pebkac nature. This afternoon, it was discovered that the current episode’s upload was interrupted and only a partial upload occurred. Thus, if you downloaded episode 6 at any time on April 13th, you likely received the partial file. Take a look at the length of the episode: if it comes in at around 1:07:00, it is the partial episode. The actual episode clocks in at 1:27:30.

As of 7pm on Tuesday, April 13th, the corrected file has been uploaded and should be working properly. If you downloaded the file directly from Geekerific, from Podcast Alley, or from another feed aggregator, you’ll have to delete the partial file and re-download it. If you downloaded it iTunes, you’ll have to follow these steps to completely resolve the issue:

1. Delete the erroneous file from your iPod/MP3 player.
2. In iTunes, right-click on Episode 6 in your podcast list and select ‘Delete’, then follow the steps to ‘Move to Recycle Bin’.
3. In iTunes, right-click on the main “After The Fact Podcast” title in your podcast list and select “View All Available Episodes”. This should bring up episode 6 again with a “Get” button.
4. Select the “Get” button to download the new file.
5. Re-sync your iPod.

We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience this has caused, and hopefully we won’t run into any more technical issues anytime soon.

Coming Up: ATFP Ep. 6 (Edited Repost)

Episode 6 will record this Sunday, April 11th!

Since the 8-bit era, SquareSoft has been synonymous with “RPG”. In an era of the menu-driven, turn-based RPG’s for which Square is so famous, Secret of Mana broke the mold with a real-time dynamic combat system, the elimination of random encounters, and 3-player simultaneous co-op play.

Taking on their first RPG of the show, the ATFP crew decides whether Secret of Mana still breaks the mold, or just leaves cracks in their sanity. Got questions for the hosts? Post them to the Ask The Hosts forum, or e-mail the hosts at afterthefact@geekerific.com!

Episode 6 Delayed

As the title states, there will be a slight delay in the release of Episode 6 of the After The Fact Podcast. The episode should be up for download by the end of the week, and we’ll do our best to make sure this delay does not affect the release of episode 7. Keep an eye on the site for the release announcement, and we’ll let you know if there are any further delays!
