I wonder if Point One will be the start of a Marvel universe where I can read a single book and not to have to pick up every issue of a 37 part “epic” crossover event that is supposed to change everything and just ends up being that Jean Grey got a bad haircut. It’s pretty telling when the last good “Epic” crossover Marvel published was written by Mark Millar…
Let’s take into consideration that I’m ignoring most of the Super Hero stuff that Marvel is putting out right now, and that still leaves me with an absolute crap-ton of superb Anti-Hero books. PUNISHERMAX and Uncanny X-Force are running strong (and violent!), and I have high hopes for the new series Magneto: Not a Hero. I hope the mini series brings Eric from his current incarnation of brooding loner hanging out in the background back to his roots as a premier Villain who’s not above F#$@ing everything up to get what he wants.

| Luke’s Take: Fear Itself 7.2? Point One #1? Wait, will there be a Point One #2? Holy crap, Point One #2.1? As with everything Marvel does, it starts out with the seed of a good idea, and quickly devolves into madness. You’d think that Mark Millar was in charge over there (ooohh… two Mark Millar jokes in the same article…) My pickups this week are typically indie. While the first issue of Tom Morello’s Orchid wasn’t perfect, by any means, it’s got strong characters and a good sense of its universe, so I’m hopeful for the future. My only other pickup is the consistently strong Unwritten. Compared to Andy, my week is, well, weak.
